Maddox is done with surgery, off the bypass and doing well!!!!
They did the Ross Procedure, which involved replacing his diseased aortic valve with his healthy pulmonary valve and putting a homograft in place of his pulmonary valve. They also repaired his mitral valve...not a perfect fix, but should be good for a long while. Dr. Del Nido said Maddox came off the bypass machine just fine and that his heart was very strong. They did an echo and his heart function looks good. He also said that it could be 3-4 years before Maddox needs more surgery. It will probably be another hour or two until we get to see our little man. He will go back to the CICU with his chest open(sternum open but covered with plastic wrap stuff) due to swelling. They leave it open so they don't put any extra pressure on the heart and lungs. Once the swelling goes down they'll close him up. The next few days are pretty critical for Mad and he will be monitored very closely, but Dr. Del Nido was very pleased with how well things went.
We are just so full of gratitude for the blessings our Heavenly
Father has seen fit to give us. We know that we have again witnessed a miracle and are amazed at the experiences that we have had thus far with our little Maddox. Thank you for your prayers, for those who fasted and for your immense faith. We know that the doctors and nurses were led and directed and, to quote our friend Father Peter, "... whose healing skills, after all, are from the Divine Physician himself." Our hearts are full. We love you all and appreciate the strength you have shared with us. We have much to be grateful for.

ReplyDeleteThis is truly an absolute miracle. For Maddox to have an in utero diagnosis that was completely changed by their prenatal procedures and then to escape with some valve repairs that will hold for several YEARS??!! WOW! Incredible. Truly incredible. Way to go Maddox. Now no tricks while you are recovering ok??!!
ReplyDeleteI am a father of sweet little girl, Abigail, that underwent heart surgery at Stanford just 13 days ago, and she is doing amazingly well thanks to the prayers, fasts, priesthood blessings, and expertise of some of the most amazing surgeons, doctors, and nurses. We understand your sense of gratitude and humility for blessings that at times we wonder if we really deserve.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to read Maddox's story as well as your testimony. Keep the faith, and may both of us not forget the feelings we've experienced through this process, and may we both re-dedicate our lives to being better disciples, more kind, more caring, and more in tune with Heavenly Father's will.
